Archbishop Elpidophoros Announces Search Committee for New HCHC President
July 24, 2019 In a letter to the interim President, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, the Board of Trustees, Faculty and Administration of Hellenic College Holy Cross, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America announced the completion of the appointment of the search committee for a new president of the School. In his letter, the Archbishop stated: “Hellenic College and Holy Cross are the well-springs of the Greek Orthodox Church in the United States, equipping the Archdiocese with competent, trained clergy and service-oriented lay persons. Fr. Cotsonis Lectures at Dumbarton Oaks
On July 12, 2019, the V. Rev. Archimandrite Joachim Cotsonis, PhD, presented a lecture on the iconography of Byzantine lead seals for the graduate students enrolled in the 2019 Byzantine Coins and Seals Summer Program at Harvard University's Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection in Washington, DC. Fr. Joachim is Director of HCHC's Archbishop Iakovos Library and Learning Resource Center and an internationally recognized authority on the iconography of lead seals, of which the Dumbarton Oaks 17,000-specimen collection is the largest and most comprehensive in the world. 27th Annual Golf Classic a Great Success
The 27th annual Hellenic College Holy Cross Nicholas J. Bouras Memorial Golf Classic is always a much-anticipated highlight of the summer and this year's event was no exception. Players from as far away as Georgia gathered at the lovely Kernwood Country Club in Salem, Massachusetts on July 15 for a full day of golf on the championship course designed by the great Donald Ross. Dr. Mamalakis in Moscow for Russian Book Launch
Dr. Philip Mamalakis, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, recently completed a whirlwind visit to Moscow centered on the Russian publication of his latest work, Parenting Toward the Kingdom. “I wrote this book principally for the Church in the United States,“ he says, “so I am overwhelmed by the strong positive reception my work has received internationally.” The Greek translation of Parenting Toward the Kingdom debuted just last fall. Holy Cross Bookstore recently hosted a celebratory event to mark the publication of the third volume in the series Encountering Women of Faith. This series has been created, developed, and edited by Dr. Presvytera Kyriaki Karidoyanes FitzGerald. Dr. FitzGerald is an Adjunct Professor of Theology at Holy Cross, as well as co-founder and Executive Director of Saint Catherine's Vision (SCV), a pan-Orthodox, non-profit organization blessed with the official endorsement of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America. The enthronement of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros as the new leader of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has been greeted with great joy by the faithful throughout the United States and around the world. No one, however, could be more joyful and proud than the Holy Cross seminarians who were invited to witness the ceremony in person at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City.
